Doing a NVQ whilst working

Posted on April 15, 2014 at 11:18 am

If you have the option to do an NVQ whilst working in your current job you should grab it with both hands. Doing an NVQ when working requires little or your own time as opposed to doing a course at college or university and can very often be funded by the government.

With regular meetings with an assessor in your place of work, and very few tests, the majority of the work is coursework with you can spend quite some time on if you wish to do so. When first starting an NVQ you may be given the option to choose which level of NVQ you want to do so long as you have the relevant previous qualifications such as GCSE’s. Once you have passed your NVQ you then may be in a position to ask your employer for a slight pay rise and also will have another qualification to add to your CV if you do ever consider looking for another job.

How to write a good Covering Letter

Posted on April 9, 2014 at 10:57 am

How to write a good cover letter to go with a CV and what should you include, is a question most of us have asked at some point.  Very often an advert will say if you should send a covering letter with your application although some bigger firms have a set application form for you to complete and do cover letter, so always be sure to check this first. Your covering letter is a chance for you to give the company you are applying to an overview of why you think you would be suitable for the position offered and should highlight the main reasons that you would like to apply and why you feel you would be suited.
In contrast to a CV, a cover letter should be short and sweet and to the point. It is usually three or four paragraphs and should give the employer an overview of who you are and your key skills. I always think that a CV should be broken down in to three sections. The opening paragraph should commence with an introduction to who you are and explain your current situation. The middle paragraph should mention your qualifications and brief employment history and the last paragraph should talk about why you think you would be suitable for then job.

Studying for a degree in law

Posted on April 3, 2014 at 3:52 pm

Deciding you want to study law has to be a very well thought through decision. As if you want to be a solicitor, it will take at least three years to train if you are a law graduate, at least four years if you are a non-law graduate and at least six years if you are not a graduate.

To study law you need to be highly motivated and show you have the academic ability to cope with a demanding course. Qualifying as a solicitor is not an easy task and you will have to face challenging exams and you will have to fund your own studies. Many students are not able to complete their course as the costs are too high and therefore they cannot carry on. Saying that, once qualified the perks of the job can be great making the studying all worthwhile and the pay can also be exceptional.

The Benefits to your career from learning a Second Language

Posted on March 20, 2014 at 4:01 pm

Learning a second language can greatly improve your job prospects, largely regardless of your job’s sector. Leaving beside working as a translator, which is a very good job, demonstrating a passable ability in a second, or third language can help to improve your value to an employer. For instance, if you work in a trading company, one which only rarely trades with foreign countries, largely due to a language barrier, your second language may suddenly open up a new market for your business to trade in, where they would have had far greater difficulty with otherwise. Learning a second language has been made considerably easier than it used to be, with the options to learn by speaking with a language package, like Rosetta Stone, as well as by communicating through the internet with tutors. Taking the time to learn a second language can be great for your business opportunities, but it can also add value to your personal life, and is scientifically proven to increase your intelligence.
